The No. 10 women's ice hockey team continued its impressive surge on Friday night with a 4-2 win over crosstown rival Northeastern. With the victory, the Eagles improved their conference record to 3-3-0, 6-3-1 overall.
The Eagles out-shot the Huskies, 30-20, and scored on one of three power plays. The Huskies converted on just one of seven power-play opportunities.
In the first period, senior Deborah Spillane set the tempo with a goal, assisted by senior Erin Blood, after only 2:33 had elapsed. It was her fourth goal of the season.
The Eagles' defense remained solid well into the second period - and before long, Boston College struck again on the offensive end.
Senior Colleen Harris found the back of the net for the first time this season, on a power play in the seventh minute of the period.
She was assisted by senior Lindsay Wright and freshman Katelyn Kurth.
The Eagles widened the gap even further with two minutes to go in the period, when Wright passed to senior Stephanie Olchowski, who then found Allie Thunstrom, who notched her fifth goal of the season.
The Huskies, however, did not give up that easily. They came roaring back for two goals in the third frame, the first of which came after only 42 seconds had elapsed. Molly Schaus let up her first goal of the game, courtesy of Kristi Kehoe. Northeastern closed the gap to 3-2 when Cassie Sperry scored off an assist from Brenna Frost with six minutes left to play.
With less than five minutes remaining, Spillane found Meghan Fardelmann, who put the Eagles back up by two goals. Kelli Stack also assisted on the play.
BC goalkeeper Schaus finished the night with 18 saves, while her counterpart, Leah Sulyma, tallied 26 stops.
Next up for the Eagles is a trip to New Haven, Conn., on Nov. 24, where they will take on Yale at 2 p.m.
