On Nov. 23, the College Republicans of Boston College hosted Jeff Beatty as guest speaker at a fundraiser for disabled veterans. Beatty is a former FBI agent, CIA agent, and Delta Force Officer, and also has worked with the MBTA, Boston Police, and Boston Public Schools. Beatty has functioned as an adviser on security for national landmarks and other counterterrorism efforts. Recent Zogby voter polls show that Beatty places just behind incumbent Senator John Kerry, who leads by 3 percentage points in a poll with a 4.1 percent margin of error. All proceeds from the fundraiser were donated to the Disabled American Veterans.

86 year-old Girl Scout receives award
Faith Iames Schremp, 86, was on the verge of receiving her Golden Eaglet Award in 1938 when she woke up with the measles. She had earned all the badges necessary for the award, but the sudden strike of the disease left her unable to attend camp, the final requirement for the award. The Golden Eaglet was the highest award in Girl Scouts before it was replaced by the Gold Award. Sixty-nine years later, Schremp's daughter-in-law decided to help her receive the award. After a lengthy search, Fran Raley, CEO of the Girls Scouts of the Fox River Area, recalled a Golden Eaglet pin embedded in a piece of artwork at the Girl Scout center. The pin was removed and bestowed upon Schremp, 69 years after her bitter disappointment.
