Hundreds of students, faculty, and administrators piled in and around Hillside Cafe Thursday night to witness a rare event: a political campaign stop at Boston College. Chelsea Clinton, the only daughter of the political power couple of former President Bill and Senator Hillary Clinton, came to BC to promote her mother's candidacy for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination as part of her "Our Voice, Our Future" tour.

Clinton, 27, has only recently become involved with her mother's campaign, and her stop at BC is part of a larger Clinton campaign strategy to appeal to the youth vote ahead of the Super Tuesday primary elections in 22 states on Feb. 5.

Speaking on a makeshift stage in a corner of the crowded café, Clinton touched upon a number of issues important to BC students, including paying for a college education, abortion, and foreign policy.

Inevitably, though, the next question that followed was, "Is there still going to be a spring concert?" "I swear that's the number 1 comment I've gotten since December," said Erica Reisenwitz, executive director of campus entertainment of the Undergraduate Government of Boston College (UGBC) and A&S '08, when asked the same question.

With just over a week remaining until the biggest day thus far of the 2008 primary season, there is very little indication of which candidate holds the edge. On Feb. 5, 22 states will be up for grabs on the Democratic side and 20 for the Republicans, among them California, New York, and Massachusetts.

Though Boston College's Allston-Brighton neighbors may complain about the school building new residence halls on Brighton Campus, the University must be doing something right. In the most recent Massachusetts Corporate Reputation Survey, BC took first place, ahead of organizations like Brigham and Women's Hospital, Dunkin' Donuts, and Harvard University as the institution most respected by business leaders in the Boston area.

'Guess Who's Gay,' the annual Lambda and GLBTQ Leadership Council (GLC) event in which audience members ask questions of a panel of students in order to discern whether they are GLBTQ or straight, was held on Thursday, but with a new twist. This time the panel was comprised of Boston College faculty, not students.

Betty Hackley is someone I want electing our next president. A 90-year old native of St. Louis, Mo., Betty has seen her fair share of presidents. She attended the University of Kansas so long ago that she took a fencing class from Dr. James Naismith, the man who invented basketball.
