THUMBS UPStock Market - After weeks of bad news, the market posted major gains on Monday with the Dow Jones Industrial Average, the Nasdaq, and the S&P 500 all posting gains over 3 percent, signs that the financial crisis may be spinning itself out.
Free Pizza - The United in Christ organization attracted plenty of publicity by providing students with something people from all religious backgrounds can agree on: pizza. The group gave away boxes upon boxes of pizza in McElroy Commons on Monday.
F. W. de Klerk and Spike Lee - The famous leader of South Africa's transition from apartheid and the moviemaker and vociferous New York Knicks fan headline an April full of excellent speakers. Check out de Klerk on April 7 at Robsham Theater and Lee on April 9 in O'Neill Plaza.
Frozen Four - For the eighth time in 11 years, Boston College hockey is on its way to the Frozen Four. Strong play from Nathan Gerbe and Joe Whitney has catapulted the team into contention for the national title. Now if students could just afford to go.
THUMBS DOWNShamari Spears and Daye Kaba - Basketball players Shamari Spears and Daye Kaba are leaving BC for greener pastures elsewhere, announcing their decision to transfer on April 1. This must be a bad April Fool's Day joke.
Senior Week Ticket Lines - With lines snaking through Robsham, into Corcoran Commons, up and down the stairs to Tamarind Cafe, and into Lower Live, the Senior Week ticket line looks more like a Family Circus cartoon than a well-organized ticket distribution. Not only do seniors have to shell out $150 for tickets, but they also have to wait two hours to get them.
Parking - Over-allotment of parking permits makes it harder to find a spot on campus than in Manhattan. With students and guests competing for parking in the Edmond's and Mod parking lot, scarcity is the name of the game. Considering the $900 yearly charge for a parking permit, couldn't we expect better?
