UGBC heads off an initiative to help Fenway go green

Given the amount of refreshments available there, sporting venues generate a substantial number of bottles and cans that may or may not be recycled. The Undergraduate Government of Boston College (UGBC) will be teaming up with the Red Sox in a brand new initiative to improve sustainability at Fenway Park, starting at the Red Sox's first home game on tomorrow.

Every Wednesday night, a slew of Boston College students join viewers across the country and gather around their television sets to watch the music industry's newest stars perform on the latest installment of Fox's American Idol. These same students had an opportunity to get their own musical break, albeit on a much smaller scale, at BC Idol, a singing competition for BC musicians.

The topic of this article is the role religion plays in the classroom. For rising seniors, registration for the final fall semester is just a day away, and competition is stiff, as everyone wants to take those certain classes on their "things to do before I graduate" lists, such as one of the many Capstone courses.

On April 9, the Quality of Student Life Committee (QSLC), which is run through the Office of the Dean for Student Development (ODSD), will begin a trial program to provide free copies of USA Today to undergraduates. The New York Times and The Boston Globe will still be available to students, and both publications have been cooperative in the QSLC's efforts.

For the first time since 1979, the pope is making a visit to the nation's capital. From April 15 to 17, Pope Benedict XVI will be in Washington, D.C., talking about issues in our world today and addressing college students at Catholic University. The pope will also make a stop in New York City.
