The price tag on a BC education nears the $50k mark at $49,560

While many private universities across the nation have surpassed the $50,000 mark for a year of tuition, Boston College remains just beneath this threshold at $49,560. The raise marks a 6 percent increase from last year's cost of $46,743, keeping BC closely in line with the national average of 5.
Pulitzer Prize-winning author slated to speak

Renowned historian and author David McCullough will headline this year's commencement exercises on May 19, as Boston College graduates approximately 2,250 seniors. McCullough, whose best-selling books focus on U.S. history and presidents, has been called a "master of the art of narrative history" and a "matchless writer.
Director shared stories of life before Hollywood

Wiry and casually dressed in a Yankees branded baseball hat, Spike Lee did not resemble Boston College's typical guest lecturer, nor did his lecture fall into the parameters of a conventional speech. Last night in Conte Forum, he shared his sentiments on a diverse range of issues with a particularly excited gathering of students.

Frederik Willem de Klerk exudes the confidence and wisdom attained only from years of experience. Indeed, after serving as South Africa's president during its tumultuous apartheid era, de Klerk is anything but inexperienced. On Monday afternoon, he was greeted with an enthusiastic welcome from students and faculty who packed into Robsham Theater, eagerly waiting to hear his views on leadership, politics, and the role of the United States in an increasingly globalized world.

While Spike Lee attracted a large audience last night in Conte Forum, a smaller group gathered in Devlin Hall for a "Real Food Panel," the last event of Real Food Week. The panel included Director of Boston College Dining Services Helen Wechsler, Anim Steel from the Food Project and co-coordinator of the national Real Food Challenge, Dawn Olcott of the Massachusetts Farm to School Initiative and Cambridge Health Alliance, and Sarah King, member of Real Food BC, Ecopledge, and A&S '10.

This is quite an opportune time for student filmmakers at Boston College. With the Baldwin Awards still fresh in the memory of many, yet another opportunity for students to create and showcase their own films has made its way to BC. The Campus Movie Fest, an organization started by four students at Emory University in 2001, gives students the opportunity to make their five-minute films about the subject of their choice, and showcase them before a panel of judges with the possibility of winning numerous prizes, worth thousands of dollars.

Americans change their favorite television shows, their hairstyle, their spouses - and recently, their religion. According to a study by the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life, 44 percent of American adults have left the religious denomination in which they were raised in favor of another denomination, another faith, or no faith, and 10 percent of Catholics have left the church.
