The Undergraduate Government of Boston College (UGBC) - guardians of half of every student's $130 student activities fee, in charge of the campus' major programming, and responsible for forging a connection between students and the administration on issues ranging from race to sexuality to academics - has chosen the students who will fill its 80-member cabinet for the '08-'09 academic year.

Nearly the entire city is visible from the Boston College Club, located on the 36th floor of the America building in the middle of the financial district. This was the site of the first annual Father Drinan Award Dinner, hosted on Friday by the College Democrats of BC.
Tanner's study of poverty, race, and class bring life to English department

After 15 years at Boston College and the publication of two books, professor Laura Tanner of the English department was due for a promotion. In March, she was one of five professors promoted to full professor at BC. Tanner's career first began at Emory University, where she taught for one year, before she came to BC in 1990.

On April 15, an environmental geoscience major's long-awaited plan for a wireless weather station at Boston College became a reality. With the help of the geophysics department, Eric Sanderson, A&S '08, installed a wireless weather station on top of O'Neill Library in order to monitor seven crucial outdoor elements: temperature, humidity, wind speed and direction, barometric pressure, UV index, solar radiation, and rainfall.

Boston College Facilities Management recently installed three eco-friendly trash compactors on campus. The solar- powered units, each a little larger than a regular trash can, compact the trash placed in them, allowing them to contain more trash and necessitating less frequent collection.

As the school year comes to a close, many students who live far from Boston prepare to store their belongings until the next academic year. For the second year, Boston College Student Agencies (BCSA) has partnered with Collegeboxes to provide BC students with a place to store their things over the summer.

American Marketing Association Boston hosted a panel on sports marketing on Thursday. Participants included representatives from EMC2, Fenway Sports Group, SBLI, Dunkin' Donuts, and the Boston Bruins.The panelists spoke about their experiences with sports marketing from the perspectives of a company, a team, and a marketing agency.
