Boston College graduated the class of 2010 during the 134th Commencement Exercises on Monday morning. Family, friends, faculty, and administrators filled Alumni Stadium to celebrate the achievements of the graduates.

After Rev. Anthony F. Penna, S.J., director of Campus Ministry, delivered the invocation, University President Rev. William P. Leahy, S.J., offered welcoming remarks.

He thanked the departing graduates for the contributions they have made to BC over the years they have spent on its campus. "You enlivened our classrooms, laboratories, residence halls, performance stages, and playing fields. You brought spirit and joy not only to BC faculty and staff who worked with you but also to people beyond our campus whose lives you touched in your volunteer activities both in this country and abroad," he said. "Boston College is a different place because you have been part of our community, and we are grateful."

Leahy asked students to think about how their time at BC has been about more than preparing for a career, but also a time to think about how they choose to live their lives. "I suggest to you graduates that your undergraduate experiences or years in a graduate or professional program have been a preparation not only for a successful career but also for your vocation or calling in life," he said. "Your time at BC has been an occasion for you to look at your lives, talents, hopes, dreams, and limitations."
