This year saw significant changes in elections structure-the actual campaign period was limited to 10 days, there was no primary vote, and the Elections Committee introduced new sanctioning guidelines. The changes did not entirely eliminate campaigning issues, though.

Last spring, Boston College brought in an outside consulting firm to help develop a plan for a new core curriculum. Last year’s Core Renewal Committee developed a new plan, heavily focused on interdisciplinary courses, that was meant to be piloted beginning in the fall of 2013. The new core structure was not implemented, however, and it now appears that the University has returned to the drawing board.

The Heights endorses Nanci Fiore-Chettiar and Chris Marchese, both A&S ’15, for president and executive vice president of UGBC. The Fiore-Chettiar-Marchese team’s platform offers the best and most realistic vision for Boston College’s student government in the year ahead. With well-developed plans of action for many of their platform points and extensive UGBC experience under their belts, Fiore-Chettiar and Marchese are best equipped to execute their vision for UGBC in the year ahead.

The Boston College community, as well as the larger Catholic community, recently lost an influential figure in Rev. Daniel J. Harrington, S.J., who passed away Feb. 7 after an extended battle with cancer.

On Saturday, a new exhibit on inter-war Parisian photography will open up in the McMullen Museum of Art. The exhibit notably combines the efforts of undergraduates and the art department with the museum staff to create a relevant, international exhibit.

Last season, the Boston College men’s ice hockey team set a school record when it won the Beanpot tournament for the fourth consecutive time. This year, the team set another record with a fifth consecutive Beanpot title. Also impressive is the fact that the BC women’s hockey team won the women’s Beanpot on Tuesday, marking the second time in the last five years that the BC hockey programs have swept the tournament.

Boston College updated the guidelines on its financial aid application information webpage on Thursday, Feb. 6, after the University was named in a Feb. 3 letter from U.S. Representative Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) to Secretary of Education Arne Duncan as one of several institutes of higher education potentially violating The Higher Education Act.

The numbers were in Steve Addazio’s favor yesterday. The second-year Boston College football coach announced his first full recruiting class on National Signing Day, and all indications show it was a success for the Eagles.

Dean of Students Paul Chebator has recently made it public knowledge that he plans to retire at the end of this semester. This marks the conclusion of a 34-year career working in the Dean of Students’ office. During his time at the University, he has consistently striven to make life at BC better for students, often going above and beyond the call of duty.
