Boston College reported nine rape offenses in 2020, according to the University’s Annual Campus Security and Fire Safety Report on Sept. 30, marking a decrease from the 23 reported offenses in 2019 and 19 reported offenses in 2018.
There were 23 reports of on-campus rape and seven reports of fondling at Boston College in 2019, according to the University’s Annual Campus Security and Fire Safety Report which was released last December. There were five more reported incidences of rape in 2019 than in 2018, but reports of fondling declined, down from 21 in 2018.
The Undergraduate Government of Boston College scheduled an emergency meeting Monday night, where it passed a resolution in response to a racist hate crime committed early Sunday morning by Michael Sorkin, CSOM ’21.
In the wake of the Boston College’s Clery Act Crime statistics being released on Sept. 28, the administration has reiterated its support for students reporting any concerning incident to the BC Police Department, student affairs administrators, or the Dean of Students’ office.
In compliance with the Clery Act, the University’s report cites 39 instances of rape, with 34 of those crimes occurring in on-campus student housing.

Pengliang Yue, A&S ’15, has been arrested after confessing to lighting the fires in Gasson and Stokes Hall, according to the University. He has been arraigned in Newton District Court.
