UGBC Election Guide 2016

The 2016 UGBC presidential election has taken an unprecedented turn this year, beginning with just one team on the ballot and ending with six teams in contention for the positions of UGBC president and executive vice president. The six teams are Anthony Perasso, LSOE ’17, and Rachel Loos, MCAS ’18, Russell Simons, MCAS ’17, and Meredith McCaffrey, MCAS ’17, Matthew Ulrich, MCAS ’17, and John Miotti, MCAS ’17, Nikita Patel, CSOM ’17, and Joseph Arquillo, LSOE ’17, Andrew Meck, MCAS ’18, and Jonathan Barbosa, LSOE ’18, and Ryan Fairhurst, MCAS ’17, and Charlie Butrico, MCAS ’18. The Elections Committee will hold a primary on March 22 to narrow down the field to three teams. The final election for UGBC president will be held from March 31 to April 1.  UPDATE | Wednesday, March 23, 2016 12:31 a.m.: The Elections Committee has announced that Patel & Arquillo, Simons & McCaffrey, and Ulrich & Miotti were the top three teams in the primary election held on March 22, meaning they will move on to the final election next week.

Creating the link between students and their ideas and the administrators that can implement them

  • Listen to the students’ concerns and ideas for change
  • Advocate on students behalf to administration, and work together to create solutions
  • Publish reports on these issues as a guide for admins, and to keep students informed

To change the first-year experience by making the transition to Boston College from high schools and other universities more useful and helpful

To advocate for student groups and organizations and see to it that they get the representation and respect they deserve, whether that be practice rooms, funding, or proper recognition

To see to it that all health needs of students are met on campus, which includes addressing the under-resourced mental health clinic, the poor accessibility for handicapped students, and walking/transportation accessibility

Make UGBC more accessible, relevant, and useful to the average student by offering comprehensive campus guides to first-year students and by using UGBC as a platform to support student organizations

Bring to the forefront concrete programs to address issues that have been overlooked by UGBC, namely financial aid/socioeconomic status and sustainability

Work to advocate for increased representation of diversity groups in UGBC and on campus, as well as introduce creative solutions for social and diversity education programming
