Rev. John “Jack” Butler, S.J., Haub vice president for University Mission and Ministry, will serve as the 26th president of Boston College, Board of Trustees Chair John Fish announced in an email to the BC community Tuesday afternoon.

Navigating a predominantly white institution like BC as a minority can pose difficulties—especially for incoming students. SC was founded in hopes of instilling a sense of community for students feeling lost while also giving them the chance to express themselves.

While packing for freshman year the summer of 2022, I brought everything—from quote books to monogrammed wine glasses. A silver leather jacket, eccentric sneakers, cheetah-print tops, colorful sandals, and chunky jewelry have all sat in my wardrobe for the past three years, traveling with me to every room I’ve lived in at BC. Thanks to my inability to clean out my room, countless miscellaneous garments remain in my tiny dorm to this day.

On Feb. 3, No. 1 Boston College advanced to the Beanpot Final for the first time since 2019 with a decisive 8-2 win over Northeastern.
