You may have noticed that Eagle’s Nest, Boston College’s beloved dining hall, underwent a major renovation this summer. Rest assured, though, one thing hasn’t changed—the pressers. Drawing long lines and satisfying students’ midday cravings, the presser is a phenomenon coming to you between two slices of pressed bread and served with chips and a pickle.
Although you may not expect it, your presser choice may actually say more than just your lunch preferences. Here are a few of my favorites and what they might say about you.
The Chicken Parm Presser
A fan favorite and true BC classic, the chicken parm presser makes for the perfect lunch. I may be biased because it’s my favorite presser, but the combination of mozzarella, tomato sauce, and breaded chicken cutlet is hard to beat. If you like the chicken parm presser, you are definitely a kind person. According to the BC Dining menu, the presser will be served on Wednesday, Sept. 17. Stay tuned!
The New England Classic
With an entire satirical newspaper bearing its name, this sandwich has reached the status of a BC fixture. And yet, BC dining hardly serves it. Consider this my official request—you just can’t beat the apple-against-cheddar combo that provides a perfect, sweet-and-savory contrast. If you order this sandwich, I’d guess you have a very satirical sense of humor.
The Turkey Brie Panini
Turkey and brie layered between two pieces of warm cranberry bread? Sign me up! This classic sandwich gives off major fall vibes and is perfect for anyone craving something cozy and warm. Fans of the turkey brie panini prefer studying in Bapst over O’Neill and keep an aesthetic physical planner instead of relying on GCal.
The Tuna Melt
The tuna melt takes pressers to a bit of a wild side, offering a uniquely fishy midday option. In my experience I have seen this served on Fridays in the season of Lent, so if I spot you eating one, I assume you’re embarking on a spiritual journey. That, or you are an old soul who isn’t afraid of a little midday tuna fish.
The Cheesy Caprese
This sandwich brings all the grilled cheese cozy vibes in presser form. If I see you order it, I will assume you’re a vegetarian excited that BC is finally catering to those who don’t partake in chicken and two sides. Cheese and tomato is a classic combo—solid choice!
The Philly Cheese Steak Presser
Another classic sandwich, the philly cheesesteak presser offers a comforting, warm bite that is sure to keep you fueled up for the afternoon ahead. If I see you eating a philly cheesesteak presser I will assume you are a big fan of the Philadelphia Eagles. You’re also probably from Delaware County and spend your Saturdays during football season at the Eagles bar in Boston cheering on your team. Go Birds!
