Sunday vs. Longwood: W, 3–1
Boston College softball took a 3–1 win over Longwood on Sunday afternoon to close its first tournament of the season, as the Eagles scored two runs in the opening inning thanks to Sammy Horn and Emma Knight.
Abby Ptak hit the Eagles’ first home run of the season in the fifth to make it 3–0 for BC, but Longwood continued to fight. The Lancers managed to score a single run in the sixth, but the Eagles ultimately took the game 3–1.
The game marked pitcher Emily Van Cleef’s first win of her rookie season, tossing 5.2 innings. Senior Halie Pappion, who is returning from injury after spending 2025 sidelined, came in to close out the game for the Eagles.
Saturday vs. Southeastern Louisiana: L, 10–1
BC took on Southeastern Louisiana to finish off its Saturday slate. The Eagles ended up falling in five innings for their biggest loss of the weekend, as the Lions created separation right from the start, putting up five runs in the opening inning.
BC put up a fight on offense, including Nicole Riddell’s first hit as an Eagle and a third-inning run from the Eagles. Janis Espinoza opened the third with a single, which Horn followed with a hit, putting runners on first and second base for BC. Ptak got a hit to load the bases, and Kiley Buckley forced a walk that earned the Eagles their only run of the game.
But the Lions scored five more runs and cut the game short with a 10–1 mercy-rule win.
Saturday vs. Tennessee: L, 6–0
Following a loss to Penn State on Friday, BC looked to redeem itself on Saturday as it geared up to face Tennessee. But just like the previous night, the Eagles just couldn’t make it to home base and were shut out 6–0.
The Eagles held Tennessee off for the opening two innings while both teams remained scoreless. Bailey Kendziorski had a strong start on the mound, but the Volunteers put up two RBI doubles in the third inning to go up 2–0.
The game was still up for grabs at that point, but Tennessee cemented things with a homer to left field in the fifth. The Volunteers dominated the sixth inning, scoring two runs in the frame to secure a 6–0 victory.
Friday vs. Penn State: L, 7–0
Coming off a win against Eastern Kentucky, the Eagles were looking for some more positive momentum to continue their season-opening tournament. But positive momentum is not what they found, and BC ended with a 7–0 loss to Penn State.
Penn State pulled ahead with a two-RBI homer in the first inning and never looked back from there. Both teams were silent until the fifth inning, when the Nittany Lions hit another home run to go up 3–0. A fielding error from Espinoza in the fourth inning was the nail in the coffin for the Eagles, as Penn State scored to make it a 4–0 game.
The Eagles could never recover and were shut out to move to 1–1 in the Clearwater Classic.
Friday vs. Eastern Kentucky: W, 8–4
The Eagles came out victorious in their season opener on Friday, beating Eastern Kentucky 8–4.
The Eagles got on the board first with Knight’s RBI double and never trailed from then on. But the game stayed close for a while, as the Eagles’ 1–0 lead persisted until the fourth inning.
But that fourth inning put the game out of reach for Eastern Kentucky. BC scored four runs, starting with an RBI double from Meghan Schouten, who ended with a team-leading two RBIs.
The Colonels scored all four of their runs in the seventh inning, but it was too little too late as the Eagles came out with a win in their first game of the tournament.
