The Schiller Family gifted $2.5 million to Boston College Athletics as an endowment for the lacrosse head coaching position, making BC head coach Acacia Walker-Weinstein the first to hold the position.

“It's really interesting to be able to talk to people from so many different backgrounds and understand those nuances better,” Sehdev said. “And I think a lot of Schiller's programs tend to be like that, because there are so many people from fields like economics, political science, law, and other different fields in the humanities, and then obviously a lot of STEM.”

There is incremental progress made at every United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP), according to Edwin Ward, Boston College COP28 delegate and BC Law ’24.

The Schiller Institute for Integrated Science and Society recently hired climate scientists Yi Ming and Hanqin Tian, the institute’s first core faculty members.

The Schiller Institute collaborated with BC’s Forum on Racial Justice in America to host an environmental racism panel on Feb. 23 over Zoom. Mizelle and two other panelists spoke about the convergence of environmental and racial issues. 

The Schiller Institute for Integrated Science and Society is on schedule for it’s December 2021 opening, said Mary Nardone, associate vice president for Capital Projects Management.

Laura Steinberg will be the director of the Schiller Institute. With this hiring, four of the last five senior administrators hired at BC have been women.

Tom Chiles, vice provost for Research and Academic Planning explained that the key principle at the heart of Schiller is “integration across disciplines.”

In a speech at last week's faculty convocation, Boston College Executive Vice President Mike Lochhead offered an overview of the nearly 75 ongoing and completed campus improvement projects.

The meeting addressed the project’s effects on traffic, parking, and noise, as well as confirmation of a new engineering department—the first public indication of any such plans.

Boston College’s Provost’s Advisory Council (PAC) released the first public indication of the University’s plans to devote resources and building space to the development of engineering laboratories.
