Artificial candles flickered in the dim auditorium. Placed on a table covered with a pride flag, each candle stood as a symbol honoring the life of a transgender individual killed in the United States this year.
Hundreds of students and faculty gathered for a candlelit vigil on O’Neill Plaza in the wake of the terrorist attack on a mosque in Christchurch, New Zealand last week.
“During this trying time, in which thousands of people outside the boundaries of the Heights are suffering as a result of natural disasters and violence alike, BC students must choose to break from the ordinary and practice compassion beyond what is expected.”
The students participating in the overnight vigil plan to present Leahy with a list of demands when he arrives in the morning.
