Power Outages Affect Upper Dorms, Off-Campus Houses

An overnight storm left several locations throughout Main Campus and Brighton Campus without power on Thursday, according to an email sent by Boston College Facilities Management to the student body.

Facilities technicians restored power across campus by 4:11 p.m., according to a second email from Facilities Management.

On Upper Campus, freshman dorms Shaw House and Mederios were affected, according to the email. Power lines on Beacon Street, College Road, and Hammond Street were also out, according to the email.

Director of Housing Operations Greg Jones said in an email to The Heights that power returned the Upper Campus dorms at approximately 10:20 a.m.

The email also said that the outages affected Lawrence Ave. and Lee Road, which are near Hammond Street, as well as Quincy Road and Priscilla Road, which are near College Road.

On Brighton Campus, power was out in the Cadigan Alumni Center, Greycliff Hall, the Brighton Dance Studio, and the Creagh Library, according to the email.

Several off-campus areas—not mentioned in the email—were also affected by the outages.

Students living on Crosby Road, Manet Road, and Hammondswood Road, which are all located past Upper Campus, reported outages on Thursday morning. Power returned to Manet around 10 a.m., according to an off-campus resident. Students living on Greycliff Road, which is adjacent to Brighton Campus, also reported outages.

The outage affected Playa Bowls and Dunkin Doughnuts, which sit between Lower Campus and Brighton Campus, as well.
