Skiing
Boston College skiing closed out its season this week with the NCAA Skiing Championships, competing in the giant slalom competition on Wednesday and the slalom event on Friday. Parker Biele and Zach Simmons recorded BC’s highest ever finishes in the giant slalom, placing 13th and 17th in the women’s and men’s, respectively.
BC also performed well on Friday in the slalom, as four Eagles placed in the top 20 and all six BC athletes finished in the top 25. Biele and Simmons again led the way with respective 17th and 18th place finishes.
Overall, the Eagles placed 12th in the team standings out of the 17 competing schools. Utah took home the championship, while Colorado finished in second and Denver placed third.
Field Hockey
The Eagles (3-4, 0-3 Atlantic Coast) had a stellar weekend against a pair of Northeast opponents, beating New Hampshire 2-0 on Friday before defeating Vermont 3-0 on Saturday. BC’s defense was magnificent all weekend and allowed just 15 shots between the two contests.
Jaime Natale found the back of the net in both games, and Sky Caron, Fusine Govaert, and Elizabeth Warner also scored.
Women’s Tennis
The Eagles (4-5, 2-5 Atlantic Coast) hosted No. 7 Florida State (11-3, 6-2) at Weymouth Club on Friday and nearly came away with the upset, falling 4-3. While Yufei Long, who came into the match ranked 76th nationally after a pair of wins last week, lost to Giulia Pairone. Kylie Wilcox and Marice Aguiar both won their matchups in straight sets. The Eagles also claimed the doubles point as the 25th-ranked pairing of Long and Wilcox won 6-2.
Despite giving the ’Noles a fright, the Eagles were unable to match their strong performance against Miami (5-5, 3-3) on Sunday and lost 5-2. Wilcox replaced Long on the top singles court, but neither pulled out a victory, and the pair also lost in doubles. Aguiar and Laura Lopez were the only Eagles to win their matches.
Volleyball
After having their previous three matches postponed, the Eagles finally got back into action on Friday night against Georgia Tech. A conference victory has remained elusive for the Eagles this season, and Georgia Tech left no doubt that BC’s winless streak would continue, easily dispatching the Eagles in three sets. BC did not win more than 14 points in any of the sets.
Clare Naughton led the Eagles with seven kills, and Gabby McCaa notched six.
The Eagles were also scheduled to play North Carolina in Atlanta on Saturday, but the game was canceled due to COVID-19 contact tracing within the Tar Heels’ program.
